Week 4

Step by Step,

Here we go to another week of technology surprise , how to facilitate the teacher's role in the class with excellent  rewards. We started with the discussion thread of  fruitful websites and articles what give us the basic of new techniques in teaching skills. In the discussion, we wrote ABCD objective of the website we prefer to use in one of the classes. This really helps in how to use everything and get benefit from.  Yes, it is a website but how learners will use it positively?
Then, we focus on one problem that facing teachers during the classes. It gives me time to stop and think what really learners need and what are the handicaps that facing them. I list many of them but the most important one is their shyness and lack of confident because they don’t want to do mistakes.
Lastly , the lesson plan what I like . It is a simple way to organize teacher's thoughts and how to set the objectives for the class.
I feel I'm really lucky to participate in this class.

  1. I agree with your comment Eman,

Donna is doing a great job with this course, the materials she has provided really help us reflect on our teaching but some people expressed the material is making them feel bad about their teaching which I don't think it's the objective.
With the fast development of technology, everybody has to struggle to keep up and stay current. Teachers usually tend to fall back and catch up later; therefore, to take this course means we are stepping forward in our profession.

We will always have different kinds of students, shy, outgoing, assertive, etc. And I believe that frequent updating on teachers' part, give the best results.

    Have a great weekend.

  2. Hi Eman,
We are having the same problems. My students are also shy. When I was teaching English in Yemen, I used to say how Yememi students are confident in other subjects but shy in learning English.

Try this with your students in the first week each year, let the shy ones come out of their shells: let them be confident. Tell them that learning English is as difficult as they think. Otherwise, they will keep complaining all around the year: Why is our teacher causing all these difficulties to us?

  3. Hi, Eman
You have touched a very important issue of professional in-service training for the teachers. In our country it is also an clear conflict of teachers and technology. I work both for the secondary school and for the university with the pre-teachers. These last years I noticed the tendency of a growing interest of the university students in using technology in learning English which is very nice. This means they will be more able to adopt new approaches in teaching while in schools. As to the older generation of English teachers they still believe in blackboard and a piece of chalk- they still are afraid to learn technology. What’s that-being shortsighted as to the changes which have been brought with the new age or conservatism which they use to escape the real state of things? I suppose both.

  6. Hello Eman,
Nice reflections..! Indeed as Tariq says we are very lucky to be part of such a wonderful learning community. We are learning constantly.

I agree with you with the class concern. It makes us think of the problems that our learners are facing. I could find quite a few and am trying to find solutions for them.
